A great night again at Darlington New Club for our return visit.
Gary Milburn and Stan Colquhoun collected 2 points against Sean McCabe and Bob Gibson despite Stan’s insistence that he “carried Gary” in the snooker and Gary kept counting double 6 in the dominoes.
Matt Nixon and Stu Crowther won a tight dominoes match in the decider 3-2 and promptly won the snooker as Nixon cleared up the colours for a slightly more comfortable point.
Eddie Bliss and Michael Eddery won their domino match with ease 3-0 only to lose their snooker match after the smashed snooker light incident delayed their game for 10 minutes as a mid-match bulb change resulted in broken glass having to be cleared from the table, any excuse from our President.
Bill and John Dixon beat Tim Brown and Ray Bonarius in both the snooker and dominoes.
Meanwhile the first snooker match of the night was still being played over 90 mins into the evening, Tom McCully and Ken Miller came from 25 points down to clinch a long drawn affair on the final black only to lose their dominoes match.
This left the scores poised at 6-4 going into the last match, meaning Roy Elliot and Keith Martin needed a double over David Smith and Ellis Rowe to secure a draw. They won the dominoes easily 3-0 and even played on a couple of more hands to see if David and Ellis could win a hand but unfortunately not 5-0 but David and Ellis prevailed in the snooker to win the match for the Dunelm Club.
Dunelm Club prevailed in a close affair, final score Dunelm Club 7 Darlington New Club 5.
Both presidents of the club made speeches thanking both clubs for participating and both gave thanks to Mike the Steward for his usual fantastic buffet, the highlight being the fantastic pork pies from Taylor’s butchers in Darlington.
Our thanks again for our friends at Darlington New Club for a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyable evening and we look forward to their visit to the Dunelm Club in November 2019, date to be confirmed.
